Pros: improved digestion, no side effects, naturally compatible with body Cons: taking 2 pills on an empty stomach without eating causes a slight burning sensation in stomach
"Six months ago, I had an episode of severe flu that lasted for 3-4 months. I had diarrhea almost everyday, indigestion, heartburn (GERD), gas, dyspepsia, and inability to digest most foods--I found undigested food in my stool. The doctor gave me an endoscopy test that ruled out hiatal hernia and ulcers. A food allergy test came back normal. Blood tests and stool samples showed no parasites or h.pylori bacteria. The doctor prescribed Zantac and Prilosec to control my heartburn. I was miserable everyday and I lost 25 pounds. My GERD heartburn disappeared from the weight loss but I still had a "gastrointestinal functional motility disorder" (according to my doctor). Later, a routine pap smear showed that I had a Candida yeast infection. I limited my sugar and white bread intake and took Threelac. I found Digestrin online to help my constant Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms. After 5 months, my symptoms improved, but I still had stomach problems. That's when I found Betaine Plus. After my GERD heartburn went away, I started to experiment with acidic foods like fresh pineapple, tomatoes and apple cider vinegar after a meal. These foods didn't worsen my indigestion or bring on hearburn--in fact, I felt like my digestion improved. When I stumbled on Jigsaw's website and read the reviews of Betaine Plus, the lightbulb in my head started to click. I quit taking Zantac/Prilosec/tums and tried Betain Plus--2 pills with every meal, 1 pill with every snack. My symptoms improved everyday. Two months later, I'm back to normal. I may be taking Betaine Plus for the rest of my life, but in many ways, Betaine Plus has saved my life--from a miserable life to one of happiness. Thank you, Betaine Plus!"

Pros: Helped acid reflux
"I have acid reflux and have had my esophagus dialated three times in ten years...but I am now taking 2 Betaine HCL & Pepsin with every meal and the acid reflux is no longer bothering me. I will be able to stop spending money on Nexium, an expensive drug I have been on for many years! Thank goodness!"

"I was very impressed with this product, relative to other forms (i.e. tablets rather than capsules) of Betane HCL I tried.
While recovering from adrenal exhaustion earlier this year, I went through a period of several months where I was producing insufficient stomach acid. Apparently, this is quite common with AE. It would manifest itself mostly as burping/belching. Initially, I tried Betane HCL tablets from a local health food store, but found for some reason that it was very hard to regulate the proper amount and they just didn't work all that well in general. Also, the Betane HCL must be quite strong, because no matter how quickly I swallowed the tablets, there was some mild burning in my tongue/throat and a bad aftertaste.
I switched to the capsules from Jigsaw and found that they worked extremely well. I would take 1 with a small meal or snack, and 2 with a large meal, and never had problems with belching or burping. They worked perfectly from the very first day I tried them. I also found that they were easier on my stomach and I never had problems with too much acid as was the case occassionally with the tablet form of Betane HCL. Finally, the gelatin capsule prevented a burning or aftertaste in the mouth. The product was confined strictly to the stomach - where it is supposed to work.
Thankfully, my digestion has largely returned to normal and I no longer need to use Betane HCL at all. But while I needed it, the Jigsaw product was definitely superior and I have recommended it to my sister who must occassionally use Betane HCL.
Bottom line: Strongly consider the use of the gelatin capsule format available from Jigsaw rather than a tablet format you might purchase elsewhere. Capsules are far superior to tablets in my experience."

"I learned back in 1986 that for some reason I simply did not produce much hydrochloric acid (HCl) in my stomach. This leads to major problems with digestion and allows bad bugs to migrate to the small intestine. For me taking HCl with every meal is a necessity!"
